Objectives of the Collectively Strongly Rooted Foundation in 2024-2030

Collectively Strongly Rooted Foundation is an organization that focuses on supporting, representing, and promoting the interests and welfare of people, organizations, institutions and enterprises of African migrants in the Netherlands. The target group of the foundation is formed by migrants whose roots lie in Sub Saharan Africa. This includes newcomers who have arrived in recent years, Africans who have been living in the Netherlands for years, as well as people from African diaspora elsewhere in the world (such as Suriname and the Caribbean). In the coming years 2024-2030, the foundation wants to focus on the mental health and general wellbeing of our target group.

It is known that the target group is in a difficult political and social position not only in the Netherlands, but also in Europe and elsewhere. With heavy histories that continue to the present day, such as enslaved, slavery, colonialism, wars, deceit, poverty, racism, social exclusion of basic needs, discrimination and so on, the foundation wants to do Seven core activities. We have chosen this after ten years of research, but also considering the cultural, social and political development in society, we consider these clusters as nuclei. We focus our objective on the seven concrete cluster core activities.

Education

Education is the nurturing of mental and spiritual well-being. The target group needs mental strength to meet the challenge. But also, people outside the target group need education about the target group to understand the target group. We do this by giving and providing lectures, trainings, workshops and/or educational activities. The development and/or implementation of a full-fledged total, guidance, training and/or work trajectory whether or not in cooperation with a training institute, in order to create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, both in the Netherlands and abroad.

Health and well-being

Working on health and well-being in spiritual, mental or spiritual and physical areas belong to the holistic view of well-being that is cultural legacy of the target group. That there is a gap between the target group and health care professionals is obvious. When there are doctors and health and care professionals everywhere who cannot understand you or give you an incorrect diagnosis or just dismiss you, the act can make the complaint worse. People get confused and frustrated. Desperation leads many to act irresponsible and become victims while in search for health care.

At the same time, it is not easy for the healthcare professionals to discover that despite their full education and training, still found out that they are not adequately trained to support or treat certain target group. The misdiagnosis makes healthcare professionals unsure of their profession and doubt if their education was good enough. To close this gap and pain from both sides, we treat the target group, through intervention activity program and culture sensitive care. We give the health professionals training to understand how they can provide adequate care to the target group.

Participation and connection

Closing the gaps between migrants and non-migrants we take seriously, because we see where the gap can lead. Providing social guidance and support to both sides is necessary for connection. Our effort is to connect and counter isolation and exclusion. Promoting mutual trust, cooperation and understanding between Dutch people, Europeans and migrants is necessary to foster sustainable and fruitful connection. Conversation with each other is one of the best means for connection. Establishing a peaceful dialogue and exchange between migrants and non-migrants, also to promote mutual understanding, respect and trust we use as part of our methodology. We organize events, activities and/or meetings together and also collaborate with various relevant organizations and institutions or participate in activities with organizations that seek social participation and general well-being of the target group.

Research and knowledge assurance

There is little knowledge about the target group and often the information about them is not accurate considering the source and interpretation. We conduct research considering their cultural heritage and background. We secure the information in books and journals as well as elsewhere. Our most lasting safeguard is in the people themselves. We collect results from our research and provide the information so that others with an interest can use it. Collect, secure and implement scientific knowledge in concrete action research and knowledge center.

International sustainable connection

Because the target group is both international and intercontinental, we work both nationally and internationally. We do that which in the opinion of the board is necessary, useful and/or desirable. We behave as the target group naturally behaves. We are where they are. We know where they come from. We walk with them on their path.

Media presence

We offer information about the Foundation’s activities, including by using the various forms of media available. We are present in the media and realize a migrant platform so that the target group can be found.

Network and services

That the target group have a network where they can share their talents and services with each other and also with others seems useful and meaningful to us. We develop and realize a volunteer network but also professionals network. Dutch version
